Makeup artistry by GINNY DWORCHAK

YOUR SAFETY IS FIRST
We are living in strange and new times. Being able to adapt in the production industry has always been an essential part of staying ahead of the newest trends. To that end, we now must include stringent disease prevention as a priority in how we work on set with crew members and talent. Your health and safety are crucial components of my business.
Not only am I a professionally trained makeup artist with over 20 years of experience in the TV and Film industry, I am a fully licensed cosmetologist. So, what does this mean for your project or shoot? To be licensed in cosmetology, one must complete 1,250 hours of education and a large portion of this education is focused on disinfection, sanitation, and understanding how bacteria and viruses can be transmitted. Additionally, every 2 years, I am required to complete a 16-hour continuing education course which again, a large portion is dedicated to updated policies and awareness on current research of bacterial and viral transmission that is currently known. In our current situation as we are still learning day by day how the novel Coronavirus is being transmitted, knowing how to protect myself and my client/talent and other crew members is a top priority. And so, to take further precautions I have implemented (PPE), i.e. face mask, face shield and gloves. Makeup brushes, sponges and hairstyling tools such as combs are always kept separated and assigned to each individual to prevent cross contamination. Anything that is not disposable is promptly cleaned and disinfected after each client, ALWAYS. Additionally, I am utilizing more disposables in my makeup kit. Utilizing disposable applicators has always been a part of my cosmetic practice, and is now an even larger part so as to prevent any possible cross contamination. I have always been very particular about keeping my makeup kit clean. I always use 91% alcohol in a sprayer bottle to keep pathogens reduced and now, I have added the use of a CDC, EPA approved disinfectant. This disinfectant is on the CDC list of approved disinfectants that kill the novel Coronavirus and several other pathogens. Any powders such as blushes and eyeshadows generally have natural antibacterial properties as they tend to be mineral based and dry, and as such do not support the growth of pathogens. However, as a precaution I always spray my powders with both 91% alcohol and disinfectant. However, if the client or talent would prefer that I use their makeup and brushes I am happy to oblige. In addition to adhering to stringent sanitation practices, I participate in regular meetings and continuing education segments headed by a panel of medical professionals who specialize in disease prevention.
